Permanent makeup, when done well can be life changing. It can transform how you look and feel each and everyday, making you feel confident from the moment you wake up, to the moment you go to bed at night, not to mention saving you time when it comes to everyday grooming. With this in mind, it’s important to choose the right permanent makeup artist, to achieve the day to day look you desire.
The clues in the name – permanent makeup is for the long term, and so it’s essential that you do your research, ask all the right questions and feel happy, confident and comfortable with your choice in a permanent makeup artist. Here’s how to choose the right permanent makeup artist for you…
Find an artist and a technician…
There is a difference between a permanent makeup technician and a permanent makeup artist. Understanding the mechanics of how to carry out cosmetic tattooing but not an understanding of the facial structure and how to create a natural and complimentary outcome will just result in an artificial finish. It’s important to select an artist that has a full understanding of the facial structure, in order to create a natural look that’s right for your unique face shape and colouring.
When you start to research potential artists, look at their previous work to help you find an artist that replicates the style you want to achieve. At Harvey’s we have a gallery of our work, which displays the natural results we achieve for our clients and can be seen here.
Book a consultation…
You should never make an appointment to have permanent makeup without having a consultation beforehand. A consultation gives you a chance to meet the artist, discus what you want to achieve and your expectations, and ask any questions you might have. In addition, it also gives you an opportunity to get a feel for the person and where they work.
Your gut feeling plays a strong role in decision making, so meeting someone in person and going to the clinic where you will have your treatment will help you decide if it’s right for you.
Don’t be afraid to book more than one consultation, or feel obliged to go ahead with someone because they spent time discussing what you want to achieve with you – you need to be completely comfortable and confident in the decision you make, so don’t allow anyone to put pressure on you.
Ask questions…
Your consultation is your time to ask all the questions you need, and don’t be afraid to ask all the questions under the sun. Check that they can achieve the result you want, ask about their qualifications and insurance, ask to see examples of their work, ask how experienced they are…what ever you need to know, just ask. In getting all the information you need, this will help you make an informed decision, and one that you are confident in.
Making your final decision…
When it comes to booking your treatment, the most important thing is that you’re completely happy with your artist, the clinic, and the agreement of what you will receive and at what price. Be wary of any artist that tells you that they can achieve anything you want – it is their job to advise you on what will work best for your features, and what will best compliment your face and colouring. You should also be happy in the range of treatments you’re able to have – don’t book in with someone who can do your brows, but can’t do your lips if that’s what you want.
At Harvey’s Skin and Beauty, we offer a full range of permanent makeup options and are always happy to answer all of your questions. We provide a full consultation in advance, and have a gallery of our work which you can access online.
The Full Guide to Younger Looking Skin
Younger looking skin seems to be the holly grail of beauty. We are all trying to look younger, or at least keep our skin looking young for as long as possible. With so much conflicting information and hundreds beauty brands telling you to use their products, what should you actually be doing to keep your skin looking young, or turn back the clocks and achieve younger looking skin as you age? We take a simple approach to anti-ageing, allowing you to fully understand how you can best treat your skin, depending on your age, to benefit from great skin health for the long term…
Always…
First things first, there are a few things we should all be doing to look after our skin, no matter our age. If you don’t do this already, make sure you wear an SPF each and everyday. Protection from the sun is the number one way to reduce wrinkles, fine lines and brown spots from developing. In addition, your diet and how much sleep you get plays a role in how healthy your skin is, so try to drink at least 2 litres of water a day, eat plenty of fresh produce, and get eight hours sleep a night whenever you can.
20-25…
During your early to mid 20s, your focus should be on hydration. The level of moisture in which your skin is able to retain starts to reduce around this age, so hydration is key to keep your skin looking young. Drink plenty of water, and use a moisturiser morning and night. At this stage you shouldn’t need anything too rich, or with anti-ageing properties, just focus on ensuring your skin is soft and hydrated.
Recommended treatment: Try our AlumierMD Deep Moisturising Treatment for a hydration boost.
25-35…
At this age its all about prevention, and working towards keeping your skin looking younger for as long as possible. Introduce gentle peels into your skincare routine to rejuvenate the skin, and allow the skin to be more susceptible to absorbing the products you are using. At 25-35, consider introducing retinol into your skincare routine. Retinol is derived from a Vitamin A complex which is great for fighting acne and the signs of ageing. Consider introducing a richer night cream into your daily routine too.
Recommended treatment: Glow Peel, to stimulate cell renewal, and minimise fine lines and wrinkles.
35-45…
Now is the time to take action against ageing skin. Look for a day and night cream that focuses on vitamins A and C, and go for something rich and ultra hydrating to apply everyday. Everyones skin is different, so now is the perfect time to visit a professional to help you determine exactly what your unique skin needs to help it be healthy, and stay as plump and line free as possible.
Recommended treatment: Consultation, to determine a treatment plan in accordance to your own unique needs.
45 and upwards…
At 45 and upwards, your focus should be on maintenance to keep your skin healthy and strong for the long term. Continue with your at home routine, as well as your professional treatments, as recommended through your consultation. Continue to focus on the anti-ageing aspect of skincare, using products high in vitamins to nourish the skin.
Recommended treatment: Radiant 30, to boost cell turn over and collagen production and improve fine lines and wrinkles.
